Assistive Technology: But at what cost? Will it be used?

I am not a teacher.  However, during my student teaching I learned a lot about assistive technology.  When in the classroom I learned nothing about assistive technology.  I had two autistic children who did not use any technology in my classroom.  They were taken out of the class after lunch and taught in their own classroom for the rest of the day.  During staff development we were not shown any technology that could or would be made available to use in our classroom.
Over the past couple of semesters I have had to do research on assistive technology and have found it to be very interesting and would one day like to use it in the classroom.  although, assistive technology is a great idea I think the training and incorporating it would be very expensive but very beneficial.

Say Cheese

I cant lie.  I love pictures and I got really excited reading about Flickr.
Reading about Flickr all I could think about was the search engine Bing.  Every day they have a new picture as a background.  When you swipe your mouse around on the picture little boxes of information pops up.  I think this would be a great tool to use in a second grade classroom.  This would be a great idea for teachers to use to help their students look more into the picture.
I also think Flickr would be a great tool for students to learn in projects they might do throughout the year.  Instead of bringing in huge posters with pictures for a project students can compile a group of photos on a single piece of paper and bring it in.  Or they can even post it on the classroom blog and present over a projector to share with the rest of the class.
